In the serene landscapes of Kerala, where emerald backwaters mirror the changing sky and the air hums with the faint chime of temple bells, a young boy once wrapped his tiny fingers around a violin bow for the very first time. That boy was Thomson Thomas, now known to audiences as Tom.

What began as a spark of childhood curiosity would grow into a lifelong pursuit, a devotion to an instrument that would take him across borders, connect him to countless souls, and allow him to speak in a language beyond words, the language of music.

Even in those early days, the violin was more than wood and strings to Tom. It was a companion, a mirror for his emotions, and a key to endless possibilities. Over the years, that quiet fascination has transformed into an extraordinary career, one that blends technical mastery with unrestrained creativity and has made him one of the most distinctive voices in Indian music today.

Where Tradition Dances with Innovation

Tom's musical journey began at the tender age of four, under the patient and skilled guidance of Sri Udayabhanu, who introduced him to the intricate grace and depth of Carnatic music.

Each note, each bow stroke, became a lesson not just in technique, but in discipline, patience, and expression. Later, under the mentorship of Mr. Vijayan Japheth, Tom embraced the disciplined poise of Western classical music, a world of symphonies, structured compositions, and refined precision.

Tom's dedication to the craft led him to the prestigious Trinity College London, where his years of training culminated in achieving the coveted 8th Grade certification in Violin, a milestone that marked him as a player of rare calibre.

But Tom's musical identity could never be confined to one tradition alone. He has always been a restless explorer, weaving together Carnatic ragas, psychedelic ambient textures, folk inflections, and world music fusions. In his hands, the violin becomes a storyteller, a bridge between centuries-old heritage and futuristic soundscapes.

Using both cutting edge technology and a deep understanding of acoustic purity, he crafts music that doesn't just entertain, it moves, it heals, it unites.

A Career Built on Versatility and Vision

Tom's artistry has found expression in film background scores, Malayalam and Kannada music projects, and high-profile collaborations with some of the most celebrated figures in the South Indian music industry. His compositions often blur the line between genres, creating immersive experiences that pull listeners into worlds both familiar and unexpected.

On stage, Tom is a magnetic presence, confident yet fluid, grounded yet electric. He has performed in over 1,128 shows, captivating audiences across India and in international venues, from intimate cultural gatherings to massive festival stages.

As the founder of the band RUDRA, Tom has built a platform for genre-bending performances that challenge the status quo. Beyond his own projects, he has collaborated with over 60 bands and engaged in countless artist jam sessions, cementing his place as a sought-after force in the independent music scene.

The Teacher, The Dreamer

For Tom, music is more than performance, it is a legacy to be nurtured and passed on. Over the years, he has trained more than a hundred students, imparting both Carnatic and Western violin techniques.

His teaching goes beyond mechanics; it is about inspiring students to discover their own musical voice, to understand rhythm and phrasing as living, breathing elements.

He dreams of one day opening a music school where tradition and technology coexist harmoniously, a space where young musicians can experiment without fear, learn from the masters, and take their art to global stages.

"The violin is an extension of my soul, every string vibrates with stories, emotions, and a timeless connection to my roots and my journey forward."

Tom's dedication has earned him some of the highest honours in his field:

  • Youth Icon in Music, Asianet Youth Awards, 2021

But awards tell only part of the story. In 2025, Tom's journey took a defining leap forward when he was officially signed by Buzzing Media Studios as a represented talent. This partnership marks not just a new chapter, but a bold expansion of his vision, one that will place his music on even bigger stages, connect him with global collaborators, and share the voice of his violin with audiences far beyond borders.

The Artistry and the Road Ahead

From meditative, therapeutic compositions laced with psychedelic textures to bold reimagining of regional music for global listeners, Tom continues to redefine what the violin can say. His music is not just sound, it is a bridge between cultures, a conversation between hearts, and a timeless reminder that the most powerful stories are often told without words.

Looking ahead, Tom shows no signs of slowing down. With new collaborations on the horizon, an ever growing fan base, his vision is set firmly on pushing musical boundaries, nurturing young talent, and creating performances that live in the memory long after the final note fades.

And so, the boy who once played for the rain now plays for the world, his strings carrying the essence of Kerala, the richness of tradition, the thrill of innovation, and the promise of stories still to be told.
